What a beautiful weekend! June gloom made a clean exit and I was finally able to enjoy the blue sky next to the equally blue ocean.
What’s summer without a delicious mint chocolate chip ice cream on the pier? I demolished that thing in two seconds flat.
It was a weekend full of celebrating. Friday I spent the day in “Funk Zone” celebrating a friend’s birthday. “Funk Zone” is a cute little part of town where all the wine/beer tasting rooms are located. It’s so nice to finally live in a small town where you are able to walk to everything!
It was also my Mom’s birthday and I had the chance to show off my town. Both my parents came up to visit and having lunch on the harbor was the perfect way to spend part of the day.
When I first moved to Santa Barbara I kept hearing about “Backyard Bowls” so I decided to make a visit once and for all. Nothing irks me more than hearing about delicious restaurants or foods that I haven’t yet experienced. Really, it seriously bothers me. I get brought back to grade school when I missed that amazing slumber party that Sara So-and-So had… I’m sure the girls are still talking about it.
Backyard Bowls is a health foodie’s heaven. They specialize is acai bowls. In case you aren’t on the health nut bandwagon (trust me, I miss it from time to time too), acai is a berry found on palm trees native to Central and South America. Acai is claimed to be an antioxident as well as a “super food”. So what are acai bowls? Think of a smoothie blend of acai and other super foods poured in a bowl topped with delicious healthy toppings:
berries, bananas, granola, coconut, flax seed, nuts, you name it!
It was delicious yet not too filling. They have several acai bowls to choose from as well as breakfast bowls. I tried out their quinoa bowl the next day. I never thought to have quinoa and berries for breakfast but I think I will bring that recipe home. It doesn’t require an oven so I’m in luck!
If you are traveling up this part of coast, Backyard Bowls is definitely worth the stop. Call me up…I’m coming too.
